Daintree Rainforest

Daintree National Park is 130 million year old rain forest, and also known as one of the few places one can see cassowaries, 6' tall flightless birds with very colorful faces. Sadly we never saw one. In fact it was difficult to see any wildlife in the park.

At the left is a very beautiful alternative to spotting a real cassuwary.

The beaches here are not swimmable because of crocs.

Our B&B was in the boonies, 8 kilometeres down a dirt road from Daintree Village, which was a tiny outpost 20 miles from anything else. The views form our B&B and along the road were mostly beautful rolling hills, used for grazing cattle. We took an early morning bird tour on the Daintree River which was very enjoyable, both for the natural beauty of the river and the many birds we saw.

We have another two nights near a small town named Mossman, and then on to Tasmanian. Nan is especially excited about Tassie because it offers much cooler weather than we have been experiencing..probably low 60s as opposed to high 80s where we have been.
